DEPUTY SHERIFF SHELDON SHOT AND PROBABLY MORTALLY WOUNDED

Sheriff received the following dispatch from Tuano last night as we were going to press: “Sheldon shot and mortally wounded come up or send Deputies.”

Sheldon went up yesterday on official business, and is reported to have been shot by Murphy who is clerking for Michels.

August 4, 1869

Deputy Sheriff Sheldon, who was shot at Tuano, died on Monday night from the effects of the wound.
